In 2014, lifelong entrepreneur and adventurer Calvin Johnson embarked on a journey that would change his life forever. It all started with a silent auction item at a fundraiser – “Build homes for the poor in Nicaragua.” Little did he know that this moment would lead to the birth of Club Need Travel.
Overwhelmed by the poverty and the urgent need for assistance while constructing homes near an open pit garbage dump in Nicaragua, Calvin was deeply moved. Upon returning to his office supplies and coffee business, he made a pivotal decision. Inspired to make a lasting difference, he established an internal charity called Lykki For Good, transforming his business into a beacon of social good and impactful change.
The Birth of
Club Need Travel
In 2016, Calvin, along with his friend Cam, founded Club Need Travel with a unique purpose: to empower adventurers through immersive experiences in Nicaragua. These journeys were more than just vacations; they were opportunities to construct homes and engage in social giving, all while exploring the beauty of this Central American gem.
During these trips, inspired guests witnessed the harsh realities of poverty and expressed a desire to replicate a giving program within their own lives. Calvin, who was already managing charitable projects for his business, wholeheartedly welcomed their request. Together, this tight-knit club of travelers amplified their charitable impact, surpassing Calvin’s expectations for helping those in need. And so, Club Need was born!
A Journey Beyond Adventure
In 2021, after three decades of leading his office supply and coffee company, Calvin made a profound decision. He sold his business and redirected his resources towards Club Need Travel, driven by a burning passion to address the world’s most urgent challenges. Calvin’s mission was clear: to forge connections between adventurers and high-impact charity projects.
Today, Club Need Travel and its dedicated team seek out, establish, and oversee Charitable Impact Projects that resonate with our vision. These projects offer adventurers the remarkable opportunity to harness the power of their travels, fostering personal growth, memorable experiences, and a better world—one impact at a time.
